Does this mean Smith buys into something like David Nolan's theory of 72-year political cycles? Nolan predicted that in 2004, or perhaps 2008, "the die will be cast, pretty much determining the general nature of our political system, and therefore our social system to a large degree, for the next 72-year cycle."
